Why AWS?

Amazon Web Services, known as AWS, is one of our favorite cloud computing companies. AWS provides enterprise-level services at a fraction of their original cost and makes it easy for anyone who has an idea for an app or website to get started. With your AWS certification in hand, you can launch dozens of online businesses using their powerful platform and gain credibility along the way. This makes your education incredibly valuable and enables you to stand out in any field or industry that uses AWS.

Here’s how you can learn AWS and make a lot of money along the way. Step one is earning your very first AWS certification, Amazon Web Services Certified Solutions Architect Associate (AWS-CSA). This powerful credential shows employers that you have what it takes to create modern cloud applications and get certified by one of today’s most in-demand tech companies. Your next step after that is taking your AWS knowledge from good to great with additional certifications from AWS. You can easily earn these by taking specialized courses or reaching out to friends and colleagues already working for AWS for advice on how best to get ahead.

AWS Solutions Architect – Associate Exam

This exam is for architecting custom solutions on AWS. It covers how to identify business problems that can be solved using cloud computing, and how different AWS services can be used to solve those problems. Solutions architects choose from several architectural patterns and apply them at appropriate scale levels (scalable, resilient, and so on). The Solutions Architect Associate exam tests your knowledge of design principles and best practices in planning and implementing scalable, highly available, cost-effective, fault tolerant systems on AWS. It also includes configuring security controls; identifying workloads suitable for various services; developing architectural blueprints; and designing innovative cloud architectures based on your experience working with real-world systems.

Getting your first job as AWS Architect

With so many AWS certification options available, it can be hard to know where to start. But taking an AWS course might be just what you need especially if you’re just getting started in cloud computing. Below, we’ll discuss some of our top picks for certification courses and tips for getting your first job as an AWS architect. Remember that these are only suggestions; there is no right or wrong way to do things. You’ll want to use your individual strengths and weaknesses in order to find what works best for you.

Building your career in data science

A new certification from Amazon can help you get started. With so many tools and options out there, choosing which one(s) to use isn’t always easy. I wrote about that recently for O’Reilly’s Data Newsletter showing how you can use various online services (such as Anaconda, R Studio, and Jupyter Notebooks) for your data analysis projects. In an earlier post on Medium, we talked about how software engineers are often tasked with big-data analytics work  but rarely have much experience doing it. That’s why they need training in Hadoop, SQL databases and related topics.

Amazon Web Services Certified Developer – Associate Exam

The Amazon Web Services Certified Developer Associate exam (AWS Certified Developer -Associate) validates knowledge and hands-on experience building web-scale distributed applications on top of Amazon Web Services. The exam covers many aspects of designing, developing, deploying, and managing scalable web-based applications on AWS using services such as EC2, Amazon S3, VPCs, IAM, RDS and DynamoDB. Candidates must demonstrate skills in designing fault tolerant systems that use Auto Scaling groups in order to achieve optimal resource utilization. We recommend candidates have 2 years of hands-on experience designing applications on top of Amazon Web Services technology before attempting certification.
